Very cool Mark! I really like how you have the light glowing inside the room along with the pulses outside. This comic will also read very well without the animation if you print it. Great Job! 😀
I try to make them work both ways, Bill, I have to plan it out so it will, though. Also, I think it’s fun to see, but if every panel were animated, it would get old quick. Thanks for the nice compliment, it makes all the effort worth it!
This is why a comic strip on the web is far more fun than the funny pages. You could never create such a fun punchline any other way! Love it when you do this Master StokeS!
A gag like this works with some limited animation, but it had to be planned out. That’s why I’m selective on just how to use movement in the strips. It does open up a lot of possibilities, though! I’m happy you like it, Jynksie!
The best one yet, Mark! I laughed out loud, even before I saw the “glow” animation (very well done, by the way). Boog is a great character. If ZB was a Harvey Comics title, Boog would make a perfect spin-off series!
It makes me happy that you got a LOL on this one, Davo! Boog would make a fun spin-off, I think! I always enjoy making his strips, they are always a lot of fun to do.
I’ve been working on this one for a while now, Paul. I knew what I wanted to do, but had to figure out how to stage it, and then animate the glow. It was worth it, though, when I see your response. Thanks so much!
Looks like they get fired up in more than one way! It took some fearful planning, Tony, but I managed to get those bugs glowing on cue! I’d like to create a tutorial on how I did it, I just need to find the time!
I have heard discussion weather animating in strips is Good or Bad, I don’t know how i feel. But i can tell you it works Great here! I love it! It really increased the power of fear in the last panel! Great intuition on your part to go this route MArk! excellent
I believe animation can accent a strip if used in the right way. I’m approaching it as a “punchline amplifier,” a strip that could work ok as it is, but that animation kicks up to another level. Of course, there really aren’t any limits to how much animation you can add, but I still think you need to let the reader fill in some of the spots with their own imagination. Thanks for the nice words about this strip, Don. I did put a lot of thought into how I was going to do this, I had the idea of that angry glowing face and then had to figure out how I was going to do it.
Payback. 🙂
Boog is not too bright!
Christmas lights in July!
Why not? Too bad fireflies don’t come around all year long!
Haha! Good job, Mark! I remember doing this as a kid! 🙂
Thanks, Tim! I’m still fascinated with fireflies, they’re floating around my neighborhood at night right now.
Beautifully done.
Thanks so much, J.P.! It means a lot coming from a top-notch professional animator!
Terrifying consequences for playing with fire..flies!
Fireflies don’t have much of a sense of humor, especially during courtship season!
Vengeance is best served with a bioluminescent reaction!
VERY cool animation!
It’s not a rosy glow, that’s for sure! Glad you like the animation, Michael!

The firefly herd mentality! I knew it!!
Like a really tiny Charge of the Light Brigade.
LOVE IT!!!! What a cute comic for summer! A fave for sure!
I appreciate that, Colleen! Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
Woo hoo…animation. Love it
It amazes me how just a little movement can be so much fun! Glad you like it, Bearman!
Hee-hee! That’s gonna give him nightmares for a month!
Monsters are not just hiding under your bed!

Wow! Great animation, love it!

Revenge of the fireflies! Love the animation Mark!
Don’t mess with fireflies! Thanks, David!
This is one nightlight that’s sure to scare! Super cool lightening bug effects, Mark!
It’s a frightlight! Happy you like the lighting effects, Joseph!
Complete awesomeness! Very well done sir!
Thanks so much Roland! I put a lot of effort into this one, it’s good to know you liked it!
Who’da thought they could be such vengeful critters. Nice animation Mark. Now I’m wondering “How did he do that?”
Looks like they get fired up in more than one way! It took some fearful planning, Tony, but I managed to get those bugs glowing on cue! I’d like to create a tutorial on how I did it, I just need to find the time!
Could be a horror movie: Fireflies’ Revenge!
Hmm. Sounds like an echo in here!
It’s Fireflies’ Revenge and it’s sequel, Revenge of the Fireflies. Sounds like the makings of a franchise!
awesome!
Thanks, Jack! Just wanted to add a little bit more this time!

Really cool lighting effects!
Thanks, Chris! It was a challenge to make it look right…
A firefly’s always happy
A firefly’s never glum
How can you be unhappy
When the sun shines out your bum
Never heard that one before, but I like it! Usually that’s the spot where the sun don’t shine!
Me neither, my wife told me it
Your wife is brilliant!
You’re playing to my weakness when you put fireflies in your comic, Mark! Love the last panel, too. <3
I couldn’t help but think of you when I was working on these firefly strips!
