Snowballed
I’m so excited about this strip because its my first “Sunday style” Zombie Boy comic strip! It took some time to put together (the color was a bit more involved than I expected), but I’m happy with how it came out. I love this two-tiered format, it gives me a chance to put more story into the panels. There’ll be more coming, no doubt!
He looked outnumbered… But he’s got reinforcements! Double-size strip looks great. 🙂
Those Truggz DO come in handy!
Oh Wow! Double-sized! Nice. This turned out great Mark!
Thanks Will. Two tiers are more work, but they’re a lot of fun to see!
That was a great way to start off the day! Thanks, Mark!
I’m glad you liked it, Tim!
Run Away!! There’s something very disturbing about this comic. Looks amazing though!
There’s nothing like a good, old-fashioned snowball fight with some enormous underground beasts, don’t you think?
LOL! used the maximum loaded ultra special!
Never bring a snowball to a snow boulder fight!
What an exciting comic! I love how the panels over lap the bottom. It frames the scene perfectly. Plus, it gave me a huge smile.
I appreciate your kind words, Brian!
That is a monster of a snowball fight.
I wonder who will win?
Oh wow. I love this one!! Man, how I wish I had a bunch of demons spawns back when I was a kid.
Can you imagine the snow fort those guys could build?
One of my favorites so far…love this strip Mark!
Thanks for saying that, Javis. Really appreciate it.
EPIC!!! love how the top frames are kinda floating above the lower action.
Thanks for the nice compliments Colm.
Looks awesome! I especially like how the upper panels are floating in the foreground. Any chance you are going to to a “process” post on the steps you took to get the final product? Keep up the good work.
I’m going to be doing more “behind the scenes” posts in the near future. I love to see how other artists do their thing, everyone has such a different approach. In the meantime, you can get a little taste of my process here: http://www.zombieboycomics.com/2011/06/15/look-ma-no-command-z/
Great comic. Love the contrast of those red demons against the rest of the cooler colors. And I really dig the character design on that dog. He’s funny 🙂
I had a hard time keeping him looking like a dog. Especially when he’s hunkered down behind that wall. I don’t want to make him a Snoopy where he’s walking around on two legs like everybody else, I’m going to keep him a dog.
I wouldn’t want to be in this snowball fight. Especially since demons always cheat and pack ice into their snow balls.
You know, you’re probably right. And since they are deep underground dwellers, I bet that put some precious gems in them to give them more weight!
Nicely done! Love the colors!
Thanks Jerry!
All is fair in love and snow war.
Lol, I like that Brandon!
LOVE IT!!! The extra work on the coloring really paid off — one of the best ZB installments ever!
Thank, pal! I’m glad you liked my first Zombie Boy “Sunday.”
[applauds] …now -thats- a comic strip sir! [grin]. gorgeous!
Thanks Jynksie!
1,2,3,4 i declare a trogg war
dude its pronounced thumb
thats not how i play it 😀
You should see the size of those thumbs before you accept the challenge!
Now that is a snowball fight! Love the layout and the bold look!
Well thank you so much Chris! I’d really love to see how these scenario turns out, but I didn’t think it out that far, lol.
The format of this one is really neat, and the art is even better. The spot blacks on the demons combined with the red really give it a sense of depth.
I appreciate your nice words. I know you do double and triple tier strips, yourself, so you know how much extra work it is. The good thing is I that it gives you more room to tell a story. You do an excellent job of that, always so well-timed.
Thanks, Mark. I really like doing the Sunday style longer strips, but only did a few as they’re so much work and they don’t really fit into my weekly comic-strip-for-print market at this time.
Your strip here I think is the best one you’ve done, which is saying a lot since all your stuff is so professional.
I appreciate your compliments, Peter. You’ve done quite a few of these Sundays, now I know the extra work involved I admire you for your hard work. Since you work in a daily format, how do you plan to fit these larger strips into your printing plans? I designed this one to be exactly twice the size of a daily, so if I had to, I can just plug it in with the dailies. What do you think?
I didn’t realize your strip was twice the size of a daily. Smart thinking!
I used one of the old standard Sunday size formats for mine. This was when I was hoping to sell Wombania as a daily newspaper strip, but that didn’t work out. I have had to settle for a few weekly papers that run it, so the Sundays are kind of lame ducks at this point.
Well speaking as a fan, I appreciate the extra effort you make to give more to your audience. I guess it really doesn’t matter what kind of format the cartoonist chooses to produce their work online. I’m only thinking of it in terms of if it ever gets published how it would fit in with the daily strips. Congrats on your weekly papers too, that really is an accomplishment!
Thanks, Mark.
I think it’s still a good idea to think about the publishing requirements, even though newspapers are a dying breed these days. You stuff certainly deserves to be more widely seen.
It’s always a good rule of thumb to plan for the eventuality that someday your work may see print. Not planning for it at the beginning just makes it that much harder at the end. Thanks much for your kind remark, Peter.
That is simply exquisite! It came out nicely and you did a really good job with it. I can tell from personal experience that it was a lotta hard work.
Thanks George. And you do these mulit-tiered strips on a regular basis, and daily at that! It’s like 3 or 4 times the normal amount of work as an average strip. My hat is off to you for doing what you do, and doing it so well!
Awesome job. Funny as expected!
Thanks MJ. Nice to see you again!
Excellent and totally epic. I love Gorr and his army just makes me love him even more!
Nothing like a red army to scare your enemies! I’m glad you like it, Becky!
Best snowball fight EVER! Nice!
More like a snowball massacre! Thanks for the nice words, Marieke!
Man that’s real scary…. Great drawing Mark
King Gorr has an army of Truggz at his disposal. Taking a snowball fight to a whole new level, can you blame him? Thanks for the compliment, Dr. X!
Most of my snowball fights end with demons too.
Remind me not to challenge you to a snowball fight, James!
Being King of the Troggs, or was it Truggs, sure has it’s benefits in a snowball fight.
They await his every command, those Truggz. I’m hesitant to guess how this snowball fight might have ended…
love love love it!
Thanks Sea Sick!
haha! Just when you least expect it…Merry Christmas, Mark!
They didn’t see those Truggz coming, did they? Best holiday wishes to you and your loved ones, Jenn!
Oh, beautifully done, Mark! <3
Thank you so much, Jande. I appreciate you stopping by and your nice comment!
Awesome one, mate! Love the colors!
I’m glad you like it, Skar. I put some extra work into this one.
Never take on King of the Truggs in a snowball fight. You can’t possibly win.
It’s been tried before: http://www.zombieboycomics.com/2011/12/21/snowballed/
