Aargh! Now I’ll have Bye Bye Blackbird by Joe Cocker stuck in my head all day!! Oh well, it was worth it.

Dang it, Spencey! I looked the song up on Youtube and now it’s stuck in my head, too! Thanks and thanks, lol!

I feel a bit like I wish the curse could go on, but only just a little bit, lol.

i have a feeling ZB hated the curse for the sake of hating stuff, not because he didnt want a million birds around him 😀

You hit the nail on the coffin, Bob! He’s just a general hater, lol. The birds didn’t help though…

I don’t know why but the song Surfin’ Bird is stuck in my head…

I was going for an M. C. Escher effect in those two middle frames. Do you like his work?

I’m ashamed to say I didn’t even notice that! That’s a great effect in the second last panel.

It was an attempt to be clever, but there is only one M. C. Escher and now I know why!

I have actually been thinking about that. But I’m not sure how to describe it… Other than it looks good and it falls well in with the rest of the panels. The second and the third panels are brilliant. In stead of having a big pile of blackness in the second panel you have given it a little bit of life and in the third panel gives a great dramatic affect with out looking like it’s being forced upon.

I tried to make the third panel look like the birds were leaving and disappearing at the same time. Say, Hjortur, do you have an art degree? You are very astute about art!

            I wish!
I have a lot of love for art, art expression and history. I spent a lot of time when I was a kid in art museums. My father and mother were artistic maybe some of it rubbed over on me.
I used to be much better at drawing then I am today, I took a break that lasted too long and somehow lost my drawing-mojo 😉

I think drawing is like riding a bicyle. You just might need to practice some but you never forget how to ride! I’m glad you’re back doing your art. You are tremendously talented and your work is so much fun!

Birds of a feather, they flock together! …and depart as well!

The art elements in todays strip is quite fun! I really like the illusions that the birds create. One of these days, the visuals of your strip, I’m going to remember who I think it classically reminds me of, but my senility is holding me back! [grin]

I was going for a kind of M. C. Escher look, but I didn’t have the patience, Jynksie.

Oh, I mean your overall style. I want to say mid century Looney Tunes, but I don’t think I’m right. I remember watching something as a kid that had a style similar to yours & when I look at your work, it reminds of that classic cartoon look I was so fond of. I can’t remember the creative team behind it and I want to. o.O

I always loved the Harvey comics, especially Hot Stuff. I can see some of that influence in my work. I’m also a big animation fan, especially of the early 30s style with the rubbery arms and legs. I also like the UPA style, very stylized, blocky like art. I spent a few years as an animator and animation art director, so that might be part of it as well.

THANK YOU! UPA it is! I just couldn’t get my mind to click on that!

Hey Tim! I’m glad you noticed that negative space thing. I was trying to make the third frame sort of an opposite of the second frame. One thing: I was trying to comment on your site: Vinnie the Vampire, but I couldn’t see where to do it? I think you’ve got some good stuff there! Thanks for coming by and commenting. Keep in touch!

Thanks Joshua. I wasn’t too sure how to do that strip, and went through a lot of sketches to figure it out. Ended up just using the first stuff I came up with. Does that happen with you?

I’m glad you liked it, Michael. I think maybe I’ll keep the bird around and see where he might go. And speaking of influences, you’ve got a really nice clean style, what are your influences?

More than I can name, but here are some top liners: Tex Avery cartoons, SpongeBob Squarepants, Rumiko Takahashi manga (Ranma 1/2, Urusei Yatsura), Kurt Schaffenberger (Superboy), Frank King (Gasoline Alley), Rex Lindsey (Jughead), Carl Barks and Don Rosa (Uncle Scrooge), John Romita, Joe Sinnott, Marshall Rogers, Gil Kane and so many more.

I really like all the artists you listed. If you’re like me there are SO many great talents to be inspired by. Even ones I don’t like I can find something to glom on. I also love Antonio Prohias (Spy vs Spy). Big Don Rosa fan btw. I wonder if you like Don Martin? I think he’d dig your sound effects!

Appreciate it Will. I sat on that final strip for a while, just couldn’t figure out how I was going to do it until I finally just did it. Sometimes it pays to just get it done without over-thinking it.
